Mike Francis, HBSc., MES, EP

Ecologist

Mike is an ecologist with nearly ten years of applied experience in field ecology, conservation biology, land-use planning, and watershed management. Mike is a specialist in both site-level and landscape-scale ecology. He has particular expertise in conducting integrated site assessment for the characterization of forest and wetland systems, and habitat-based assessments for Species at Risk. He has spent the past several years working in environmental land-use planning as both a consulting ecologist and public agency technical specialist and peer reviewer. He has authored and/or provided critical peer review of hundreds of technical reports, including Environmental Impact Studies, Natural Heritage Evaluations, Wetland Evaluations, Site Evaluation Reports, Species at Risk Assessments, and Natural Environment Reports. Through past roles, he has supported several southern Ontario municipalities in their development of natural heritage planning policies and functional natural heritage systems. As a former conservation biologist with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, he played a key role in several large-scale natural area planning initiatives across southern and central Ontario. Mikeā€™s diversity of past experience provides him with a unique perspective on the responsible acquisition of approvals from planning and regulatory authorities.
